Our 50 bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is the only one of its kind in all of eastern Africa. The proud staff of RMBHK named the NICU after James (Jim) A. Lemons, MD who has dedicated his life to helping women and children who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. The Professor James A. Lemons NICU cares for babies with the most complex medical problems. Our staff is well trained and works collaboratively to develop a plan of care for each baby. We encourage mothers and families to participate in the care of their babies and we teach mothers how to care for their babies after they leave the hospital. "We are hopeful that our NICU and our hospital will elevate the status of women and children and bring transformation to all of sub-Saharan Africa," Lemons said.
